West Ham United have revealed that their long-serving striker Michail Antonio was involved in a road traffic accident on Saturday.
The Jamaica international has appeared in all 14 of West Ham’s Premier League matches this season, scoring once in the 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at the start of October. Antonio is halfway through his tenth season in east London after joining the Hammers from Nottingham Forest in September 2015.
During a career which has included long spells at right-back and on both flanks, Antonio became West Ham’s top Premier League goalscorer, surpassing the tally jointly held by club legends Paolo Di Canio and Mark Noble.
On Saturday afternoon, West Ham released a club statement on social media which read: “West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time.
“The Club will issue an update in due course.”
Antonio was due to be involved in West Ham’s upcoming Premier League fixture at home to fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.
