Watch: “Jaddu, daant mat dikha zyada”

The Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) reached a thrilling stage with just one day left, but it wasn’t just the cricket that had fans talking. On the fourth day, a hilarious exchange between Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja caught everyone’s attention.

During a change of overs with Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland at the crease, Virat Kohli asked the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who would bowl next. Rohit promptly responded, “Jaddu daal Jaddu,” referring to the left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja by his nickname.

Rohit then gave specific instructions to Jadeja by saying, “Yahan se daal ke dekh kya hota hai (Bowl from this end and see what happens).” But the fun among the Indian players didn’t stop there, as the Indian skipper added with a chuckle, “Aye Jaddu, daant mat dikha zyada yaar usko (don’t show him too much teeth).”

However, the exact meaning of the second comment was unclear; it seemed like Rohit Sharma was telling Ravindra Jadeja to keep things subtle and laugh. As Jadeja prepared to bowl, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant joined the lighthearted banter at the MCG on Sunday.

Keeping the atmosphere lively, Rishabh Pant was caught on the stump microphone saying, “Nice, Jaddu bhai. Aage aane do yaar, chalo bhaiyo (Let the batter come forward; come on, guys).” Now, the clip of the hilarious yet entertaining moment is going crazily viral across the social media platforms.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team was bowled out for 369 early on Day 4 morning in response to Australia’s 474, thanks to a crucial 127-run partnership between Nitish Kumar Reddy (114) and Washington Sundar (50) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar’s remarkable efforts limited Australia’s first-innings lead to 105 runs. India then staged a strong comeback with Jasprit Bumrah leading the charge, taking four wickets as Australia was reduced to 91 for 6.

Australia leads by 333 runs despite India’s spirited comeback at the MCG

Australia lost four wickets for just 11 runs in the dramatic collapse against India, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, dropped catches allowed Australia to recover on Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.

Marnus Labuschagne made a valuable 70 and added 57 runs with Pat Cummins (41) while the last-wicket pair of Nathan Lyon (41*) and Scott Boland (10*) added 55* runs to frustrate the Indian side in the ongoing Boxing Day Test.

At stumps, Australians were 228 for 9, with a total lead of 333 runs, setting up an exciting Day 5 of play at the MCG on Monday, December 30. Since the pitch is getting better for batting in MCG, India would love to extend their lead in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the MCG.

Notably, Australia has only lost two Tests at the MCG since 2011 against India in 2018 and 2020. The pitch at the MCG usually suits their playing style, and they are currently in a strong position in the match, so the tourists must step up at the MCG to defend the BGT this time Down Under.
