Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared his take on Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the second innings of the ongoing second Test against the Australia National Cricket Team. He said that the right-hander has serious technical flaws, and he can’t find solutions to them.
Virat Kohli, who scored a terrific century in the first Test in Perth, bagged failures in both the innings of the ongoing Adelaide Test match. The premier batter looked clueless in both innings, as Australian pacers were all over him and made life tough for him. With the way he was batting in the second essay, it only looked like a matter of time for him.
Virat Kohli was tested by Scott Boland in the second innings
While it was Micthell Starc who got better off him in the first innings, it was Scott Boland who removed him in the second innings. The right-arm pacer bowled consistently in the channel outside off and troubled Kohli throughout his stay at the crease in the second innings.
Kohli ultimately edged the delivery from Scott Boland that was caught by keeper-batter Alex Carey. The premier batter was tested by the fast bowler entirely in his spell and then finally was back in the hut for 11 runs off 21 balls. He managed just 7 runs in the first innings.
With the monkey off the bat, you expected a Virat Kohli a lot more relaxed, looking in better shape – Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar talked about Kohli’s innings and mentioned that the batter’s technique to counter the line outside off has made his life difficult. He also added that he expected the batter to bat freely, having scored a ton in the last game. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said:
“I don’t have strong opinions on Virat Kohli. I just, you know, say the truth or the facts that I see in front of me. And it’s something that I’ve said before as well. The technique that is developed to counter that line outside of some swinging ball has not really made his life easier.
“When he got that 100 runs in the last game, you know, I thought, okay, let’s find out whether just the dearth of runs is contributing to his mistakes that he’s making. Now with the monkey off the bat, you expected a Virat Kohli a lot more relaxed and, you know, looking in better shape.”
He’s got this serious technical issue that he just can’t find a solution to – Sanjay Manjrekar on Virat Kohli
Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Kohli getting troubled by that same line showed that he has a technical issue that he just can’t find a solution to. He elaborated:
“But clearly, that was a problem earlier of no run then plus a technical issue. But after getting 100, that he was troubled by that same line showed that he’s got this serious technical issue that he just can’t find a solution to.”
Virat Kohli would now be looking for a strong comeback in the next game. In the ongoing match, India are in massive trouble, having lost 5 wickets with 29 runs still in the bank. Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who were at the crease on stumps, would be hoping to end the deficit and set a fighting target.
