Sri Lanka Playing 11 vs Bangladesh- 2nd T20I, Bangladesh Tour of Sri Lanka 2025:

Openers: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk)

Lanka will open the batting with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis in the second of three T20Is against Bangladesh in the ongoing series.

The duo gave Lanka a quick start in the first game by adding 78 runs for the first wicket in less than six overs, 4.4 to be precise, while chasing a target of 154 runs and batted Bangladesh out of the match.

Both batters were equally aggressive, with Nissanka scoring 42 runs off 16 balls and Kusal Mendis a match-winning half century to guide his team to a comprehensive win.

Sri Lanka would be happy with the way Pathun Nissanka, who was short of runs in the preceding three-match ODI series, but looked comfortable against the Bangladeshi bowlers.

Kusal Mendis, who was promoted to open the batting, grabbed the opportunity with both hands and did not let the opposition bowlers settle.

The Charith Asalanka-led side would hope for the openers to carry the form in the upcoming second T20I and seal the series in this particular game itself.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, Charith Asalanka (c), Dasun Shanaka, Chamika Karunaratne

The opening pair will be followed by an in-form middle order, which didn’t have much to do in the opening match of the series, given that the bulk of the runs were scored by the openers.

Having said that, Kusal Perera, who wasn’t a part of the ODI squad, played a responsible innings and ensured that the home team didn’t go through a collapse in the middle overs.

Kusal Perera, along with Kusal Mendis, added crucial runs for the second, which gave Bangladesh no chance of coming back into the game.

It was Avishka Fernando who batted at number four and captain Charith Asalanka who finished the game and gave Sri Lanka a 1-0 lead in the series.

The team management would want the batters to replicate the form in the second T20I match as well.

Bowlers: Jeffrey Vanadersay, Maheesh Theekshana, Binura Fernando, Nuwan Thushara

Lanka went in with two fast bowlers, two all-rounders, and two spinners in the playing XI for the first game and is expected to retain the combination for the next game also.

It appeared like Sri Lanka has identified their bowling lineup for this format of the game, which also gives them batting till number seven, which will be extended till number eight once Hasaranga is fit and available.

Lanka had a total of four fast bowling options in their playing XI in the first match, including two fast bowling all-rounders, Dasun Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne, which gave the captain a chance to rotate his bowlers.

The team’s spin bowling department will be handled by Maheesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay, both of whom did a fine job in the first game.
