Shreyas Iyer dances like young Virat Kohli after India’s Champions Trophy triumph

India finally ended a long wait for an ICC 50-over title as they clinched the Champions Trophy 2025 by defeating a spirited New Zealand in the final. After lifting the trophy, Shreyas Iyer showed his impeccable dance moves as the whole team posed for the trophy.

As the Indian team posed with the trophy behind the sign champions, Shreyas Iyer’s dance moves caught everyone’s eye and he got cheered by his teammates. It brought back memories from the 2013 Champions Trophy win when a young Virat Kohli did something similar.

In 2013, Virat Kohli performed the ‘Gangnam style’ dance and also did some push-ups to celebrate India’s title win under the leadership of MS Dhoni. This time, it was time for Iyer to celebrate like a champion.

The celebrations began as soon as Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs through the leg-side for a boundary. The team ran into the ground to hug the unbeaten batters Jadeja and KL Rahul.

There was no stopping the team as they continued to rejoice in the precious moments. Senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were all pleased after winning the second ICC title together in two years.

Shreyas Iyer’s terrific form

It was a terrific tournament for Shreyas Iyer from a personal perspective as well. The middle-order batter scored 243 runs in five matches at an average of 48.60 with two half-centuries to his name.

Iyer played some crucial cameos throughout the tournament and was easily the most consistent batter for India. His two fifties came in crunch situations against Pakistan and New Zealand when India were in trouble.

The 30-year-old batter scored crucial forties each in the semi-final and the final which played a key role in taking India to victory. He emerged as India’s highest and the second-highest run-getter of the tournament overall.

Shreyas Iyer in CT 2025 final

Shreyas Iyer fell just two runs short of a well-deserved fifty in the final against New Zealand. He scored 48 off 62 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. India had lost three big wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli for just 17 runs.

However, Iyer showed a great amount of maturity and formed a vital partnership with Axar Patel. The duo collected 61 runs for the fourth wicket to bail India out of trouble. He couldn’t complete his fifty but ensured to leave India in a position of ascendancy.

The main feature of Iyer’s performance in this tournament was his maturity. He is usually an aggressive batter but he curbed his nerves and batted with great maturity in this Champions Trophy. He tackled the short balls brilliantly and showed everyone how much he has grown as a player.

India lifted a Champions Trophy title after a gap of 12 years. The last time they won the tournament was way back in 2013 when MS Dhoni led the team to the title win. It was also the last time when the Men in Blue won an ICC 50-over title.
