Rohit Sharma told to bat in middle-order after KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Perth Test heroics

Former India National Cricket Team player Dodda Ganesh came up with a suggestion for head coach Gautam Gambhir. He urged the team management to continue opening with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul in the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 despite Rohit Sharma returning for the next game.

Dodda Ganesh’s comments came after the incredible performance by KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second innings of the ongoing first Test against the Australia National Cricket Team. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal came up with a superlative effort with the bat in the second innings

After failing to make a mark in the first innings, Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal came up with a superlative effort with the bat in the second innings. Their partnership with the bat arguably was one of the best by Indian openers in the Test match in overseas conditions.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal showed great discipline against the new ball and looked very solid in defense. They also made sure that they cashed on the scoring opportunities and put the Australia National Cricket Team bowlers under massive pressure.

KL Rahul and Jaiswal dominated the entire day with the bat and frustrated Australia bowlers. They took the shine off the new ball pretty well and, after that, made sure they didn’t waste the hard work that they put in while battling hard against the new ball.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 172 runs for the opening wicket

Both the batters slammed vital half-centuries and added 172 runs for the opening wicket. Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 90 runs off 193 balls. The opening batter also hit 7 fours and 2 sixes in his innings and would want to double his effort on Day 3.

Rahul, on the other hand, was batting at unbeaten 62 off 153 balls with the help of 4 boundaries. The duo added an unbeaten 172-run partnership that saw the Jasprit Bumrah-led side take a lead of 218 runs. They would be hoping to set as big a target as possible and win the first game.

With Rahul and Jaiswal displaying such a terrific effort with the bat while opening and with Rohit Sharma returning for the next game, it will be a massive headache for head coach Gautam Gambhir. Skipper Rohit is likely to open the innings and there are chances that Rahul might go back to middle order.

Just have KL Rahul opening throughout the tour – Dodda Ganesh demands Rohit Sharma removal as opener

But Dodda Ganesh isn’t pleased with the opinions. He backed Rahul to open the innings in the entire series and claimed that Rohit Sharma should bat in the middle order. Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:

“Just have KL Rahul opening throughout the tour. For heaven’s sake, don’t shuffle his spot again. He’s the best bet to handle the conditions with the new ball. Rohit can bat in the middle order.”

Dodda Ganesh believes that Rohit Sharma should bat in the middle and the opening partnership of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal should stay. He stated:

“This opening partnership has to stay and Rohit will have to bat in the middle order. Hopefully, common sense prevails
