MLC 2025 [WATCH]: A bizarre misfield leaves fans in splits as Faf du Plessis guides Texas Super Kings into playoffs with a commanding win over MI New York

In a high-stakes clash between Texas Super Kings (TEX) and MI New York (NY), the former continued their scintillating run as they qualified for the playoffs for the third consecutive time in the Major League Cricket (MLC). Meanwhile, a bizarre and unexpected moment took place in the game which left fans amused and talking on social media.

A fielding blunder sends the ball over the ropes

The moment unfolded in the 14th over of the second innings when TEX set an unusual field to stop the in-form Kieron Pollard. Noor Ahmad bowled a wideish delivery from over the wicket, and Pollard runs the ball through the extra cover region. TEX fielder Saiteja Mukkamalla came around to stop it, but the ball went through his hands. He tracked it down, collected it, and attempted to toss it to the non-striker’s end. However, the ball slipped out of his hand again and ended up crossing over the ropes. The effort left the commentators in mild shock and had fans laughing. Meanwhile, the team’s fielding coach, Albie Morkel, was visibly disappointed with the effort.

Faf du Plessis powers Texas Super Kings to a comfortable win

In front of a packed house on Sunday evening, Texas became the third team this season to seal their place in the playoffs. Asked to bat first, TEX skipper Faf du Plessis once again rose to the occasion with a blistering century. He anchored one end throughout the innings, helping his side post a mammoth total of 223 runs. Faf scored 103 off just 53 deliveries, including 5 fours and 9 massive sixes.

In reply, MI New York’s batting was once again marked by inconsistency. Nicholas Pooran failed to fire, despite a century in the previous game. Pollard put up some resistance with a quick half-century, but it wasn’t enough, as TEX clinched a comfortable 39-run victory. With just three league-stage games remaining, New York will need to deliver brilliant performances to keep their playoff hopes alive.
