Jasprit Bumrah seriously injured in Adelaide Test? Morne Morkel provides huge update

The India National Cricket Team bowling coach Morne Morkel has provided a massive update on the fitness of the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.

On Day 2 of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Jasprit Bumrah suffered a massive injury scare while bowling, and the entire Indian camp looked worried.

Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury scare in the 81st over

Bumrah was bowling the 81st over of the innings, and after the third ball, he looked in some sort of trouble. Travis Head dispatched a 132.6kmph delivery of Bumrah to the boundary for four, and after that, the pacer went down.

The physio instantly came down in the middle to check on the pacer as the Bumrah was seen holding his adductor muscle which wasn’t a good sign.

There was a slight delay in the match as the physio provided the treatment to the Indian pacer, and after some time, Bumrah was up on his feet and completed the over without facing any issues.

Jasprit Bumrah continued to bowl beyond the 81st over and got a breakthrough in the 85th over. On the last ball of the over, he castled the Australian skipper Pat Cummins with a peach and it was the 8th wicket of the hosts.

Meanwhile, Morne Morkel revealed after the end of the day’s play that the Indian pace spearhead was totally fine and he just suffered cramps during the 81st over.

“Firstly, Bumrah is fine and it was just cramps. Even after that [incident] he bowled and got the wickets for us. Like I said, Test cricket is a tough place, there is no place to hide,” India bowling said at the post-day press conference in a video shared by One Cricket.

Just like Head, this is the way Pant bats – Morne Morkel

When asked about the bowling performance of the Indian team, Morkel said that he expected a better performance on Day 1, and on Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah & Co. did well before Travis Head launched an attack.

“Yesterday (Friday), the lines and lengths could have been better, there was some extra swing too. Thought they did well today (Saturday) morning before Travis Head played his innings. He put the bowlers under pressure but that’s the way he plays,” he said as quoted by Sportstar.

Team India did a poor job with the bat on Day 2, and after the dismissal of Virat Kohli in the 15th over, there was a lot of pressure on the visitors.

However, Rishabh Pant, being the caliber of player he is, fearlessly walked down the track and smashed Scott Boland for a terrific boundary on the first ball he faced after Kohli’s wicket. The wicketkeeper-batter batted the same way throughout his innings and showcased some sensationally outrageous shots.

Talking about Pant’s approach, Morne Morkel said that the wicketkeeper-batsman is a naturally aggressive player and always looks to put the bowlers under pressure. He said:

“Just like Head, this is the way Pant bats, that’s his approach. Always puts the bowlers under pressure. Seeing the scoreboard, you won’t expect the kind of shot he played from the first ball but that is how he is.”
