Jasprit Bumrah’s Team India Hammered Team Australia In Perth Test

India were led by Jasprit Bumrah in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opener as Rohit Sharma was unavailable as he took a paternity leave.

The hosts started off poorly at the Perth Stadium as they got bowled out for 150. However, the Indian bowling unit delivered an exceptional performance and bowled out the Aussies for 104 to take a good lead.

In the next innings, India piled up 487/6 on the board, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli’s ton as well as KL Rahul’s impressive 77. Also, in the final innings, the Indian bowlers once again dominated and bundled out Australia for 238 to clinch a 295-run win.

I am not going to tell him that I am going to lead, but yeah, I am going to help him – Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah was asked about the leadership dynamics of the team after the return of Rohit Sharma and he said that he had no problem in stepping aside and allowing the Indian captain to take over the job. Bumrah added that he will always be there to help Rohit on the field whenever required.

“He is the captain of our side, he has done a phenomenal job. I was filling in for him, I had a discussion with him when he was in India, we kept discussing how we are shaping up. I am not going to tell him that I am going to lead, but yeah, I am going to help him in whatever capacity I can,” Bumrah said during the post-match press conference.

The pace spearhead further said that the Perth Test victory over the Aussies was a special one for him because his son was present there. He said:

“My son is also here, I’ll share it with him. I’ll remember this for a while.”

Pretty proud. This was my second game as the captain – Jasprit Bumrah

While talking about his captaincy, Bumrah said that he was proud of himself as the team did a great job under his leadership. He said:

“Pretty proud. This was my second game as the captain. We played well in the first innings of my debut game as captain in Birmingham as well, but England played really well in the second innings. You will always take learnings from that, really happy with the way we came back in this match.”

Jasprit Bumrah further expressed delight over the performance of the bowlers and batters, and he also spoke on the biggest positive from the Perth Test. He said:

“Pretty happy with the way the batting shaped up and the bowlers, with the new bowling lineup as well. The biggest positive for me was that when we got out for 150, nobody in the dressing room was down. Everyone was confident that if we back our ability, we can also leave an impact. That going further will help us. This is a tough place to play cricket, but when you respond to pressure, it helps you in your career. ”
