Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has begun his preparation for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The wicketkeeper batter smashed a massive shot during his practice session in the CSK nets, showing his top form for their opening match against Mumbai Indians (MI).

The Super Kings retained key players, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, powerful hitter Shivam Dube, and pacer Matheesha Pathirana ahead of the mega auction. Notably, MS Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player, following new regulations introduced in the off-season.

A fan shared a video on X (formerly known as Twitter) to offer a glimpse of Dhoni’s batting practice, where he displayed his characteristic flair. Dhoni smashed the ball with his flawless timing and power during the nets.

The clip shows Dhoni hitting the ball with authority, much to the delight of his supporters. Fans praised his effortless stroke and expressed hopes of seeing him in top form during the upcoming season.

In a recent conversation, Dhoni said that he has a few more years of cricket left, assuring CSK fans of more exciting moments to come.

MS Dhoni Has Not Played Competitive Cricket Since May 2024

MS Dhoni has not played competitive cricket since May 2024, following CSK’s final league match of the IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Dhoni displayed excellent form despite batting lower down the order. He scored 161 runs from 14 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 220.55.

The right-handed batter played as a pinch hitter and finisher in recent seasons. He came in at various positions, sometimes as high as No. 5 or as low as No. 8 or 9. Dhoni was dismissed only three times in IPL 2024, with one rare run out.

The 43-year-old enters his 18th IPL season. He stepped down as captain, handing over the role to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni continued to make significant contributions with the bat. Fans are excited to see if he will take on a more prominent role in the batting lineup this season.

Overall, MS Dhoni has played 264 IPL matches, scoring 5,243 runs at an average of 39.12, including 24 half-centuries. His highest score in the tournament is an unbeaten 84.

Chennai Super Kings will begin their IPL 2025 campaign with a highly anticipated match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 23 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

This El Clasico will be the first game for both teams in the upcoming season. Ravichandran Ashwin, after nine seasons away, will reunite with CSK, joining MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja for this exciting encounter.
