Greg Chappell names India spinner as new Shane Warne

Former Indian head coach Greg Chappell has issued a verdict on the Indian bowling lineup after India’s defeat against England in the Headingley Test. He gave some valuable insights to the Indian test side before they advanced into the Edgbaston test.

Though England claimed a huge victory against India, the Men in Blue did a fairly good job, having scored a lot of runs, as a total of 4 batters scored 5 centuries in the Leeds test. Greg Chappell has also criticized the team for having dropped nearly 10 catches in the match.

The former Australian great has called for the return of spinner Kuldeep Yadav to the Indian side. He has reserved high praise for the left-arm chinaman bowler, who is among the rarest talents currently in world cricket.

Kuldeep received a huge certification as Chappell called him the best leg-spinner since Australian legend Shane Warne, who is considered the King of spin bowling.

Greg Chappell names Arshdeep Singh as a variable pace option alongside Bumrah

Greg Chappell ended the controversy in the Indian bowling lineup, as he identified the Indian bowlers as lacking variety, except for world no. 1 Jasprit Bumrah on the side. Wickets do not fall after a change in bowling attack, as, other than Jasprit Bumrah, Indian seamers are too similar, everyone being right-arm, medium-fast, and operating at almost similar angles.

Hence, Chappell has urged for the entry of left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh into the side, as the bowler would definitely add variety to the team’s bowling deck.

“There is a reason why wickets often fall after a change of bowling. It forces the batter to recalibrate. That variability isn’t available to Shubman Gill with his current crop.”

“Without Bumrah, I’d like to see left-armer Arshdeep Singh added to the mix and Kuldeep Yadav, possibly the best wristspinner since Shane Warne, included in the attack,” wrote Greg Chappell in his column for EspnCricinfo

“Jadeja is not a front-line spinner,” says Chappell

Stressing over the fact that Kuldeep Yadav should be included in the India playing 11 for the Edgbaston test. Chappell stated that Ravindra Jadeja cannot be favoured as the team’s frontline spinner as he can play in the role of a supporting bowler.

He also criticized the idea of playing supposed all-rounders and said they should rather look to pick only a bowling unit comprising players who can pick 20 wickets for the Indian side.

“Jadeja is not a front-line spinner in English conditions. If his batting is considered good enough, he can be a support spinner; otherwise, a rethink is necessary. If India are to reverse their fortunes in this series, then a better-balanced team is required,” said Chappell.

So many opinions but one common factor—Kuldeep Yadav for Team India

Several cricket experts, as well as former players of the Indian Test team, have hinted at the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav for the second Test match against England at Birmingham.

This time around, Greg Chappell, who has given his opinion on the selection of Indian players for the second Test, has also mentioned a common inclusion into the Test side. He named Kuldeep Yadav a great spinner and a must-include player in the 11.
