Frustrating draw sees both sides stay midtable

Brighton were held to a frustrating draw as Brentford earned a Premier League point on the south coast.

The home side had most of the play and 24 shots on goal but could not find a way past Mark Flekken or his replacement Hakon Valdimarsson in the Brentford goal.

Julio Enciso set the tone in the early minutes when he clattered a shot off the woodwork after Flekken’s pass was intercepted.

The Brentford keeper then made fine saves from Matt O’Riley and Kaoru Mitoma before injuring his groin.

The Bees threatened from time to time themselves, with Yoane Wissa seeing a goal disallowed for a tight offside.

Solly March returned as a late substitute after 14 months out with injury but could not inspire a goal as both teams had to settle for a draw. It is just the second point Brentford have earned on the road.

Brighton – who are now six without a win in the league – are now 10th in the table while Brentford are two points behind in 11th.

More to follow.
