England Women have officially announced their squads for the highly anticipated 2025 Women’s Ashes series in Australia, marking a significant moment in women’s cricket. As the team prepares to reclaim the Ashes, they will compete in a multi-format series consisting of three One Day Internationals (ODIs), three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and a four-day Test match.
A new dawn for England Women
Under the leadership of Heather Knight, the England Women’s team is set to embark on a challenging tour that begins on January 2, 2025. The squad features a blend of seasoned players and fresh talent, with four potential debutants: all-rounder Freya Kemp, spinner Linsey Smith, wicketkeeper-batter Bess Heath, and seamer Ryana MacDonald-Gay. This mix is intended to provide both experience and youthful energy as they aim to win the Ashes for the first time since 2015.
The upcoming series is particularly notable as it includes a day-night Test match at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which will conclude the multi-format series. This format change highlights the evolution of women’s cricket and its growing prominence on the international stage.

The road to reclaim Ashes for England
England will kick off their campaign with a warm-up match against a Governor General’s XI on January 9, 2025, before diving into the ODIs starting January 12. The matches will take place across various iconic venues, including North Sydney Oval and Junction Oval in Melbourne. The T20 matches will follow, culminating in the Test match starting January 30.
Head coach Jon Lewis in a media release from ECB expressed confidence in his squad’s balance, stating, “We have named balanced squads for this Ashes series, with a good mix of youth and experience. Ashes series are always special. We want to go there, play our way, and are all excited about the challenges ahead”.
In the previous Ashes series held in England in 2023, Australia emerged victorious in the Test match at Trent Bridge, while England claimed victory in both white-ball formats. This resulted in an overall draw of eight points each.
