ENG vs IND: Will Jasprit Bumrah play the Manchester Test? Mohammed Siraj provides massive update on Indian pacer availability

As the highly anticipated fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series approaches at Old Trafford, the Indian cricket team is facing a crucial juncture. Trailing 2-1 against England, the visitors are under immense pressure to deliver a strong performance and level the series. With pivotal players’ fitness constantly under scrutiny, the team management has been working diligently to ensure the squad is in optimal condition for this do-or-die encounter.

Mohammed Siraj’s update on Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the ENG vs IND Manchester Test

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has provided a vital update regarding the availability of his new-ball partner, Jasprit Bumrah, for the upcoming fourth Test in Manchester. During a media interaction, Siraj unequivocally confirmed Bumrah’s readiness to play, stating, “Jassi bhai toh khelenge” (Jasprit Bumrah will definitely play). This is what i know as of know,”.

This declaration by Siraj comes as a significant relief for the Indian team, as Bumrah’s workload management has been a point of discussion throughout the series. Bumrah’s inclusion is a significant boost for India, as he has been in stellar form throughout the series, consistently delivering crucial breakthroughs and unsettling the English batting lineup. His return to the playing XI is particularly important considering the growing injury list in the Indian pace battery, with Akash Deep (groin issue) and Arshdeep Singh (hand injury) facing fitness concerns, the latter being ruled out and Anshul Kamboj called in as cover.

ENG vs IND: Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and India’s Old Trafford woes

The ongoing Test series between England and India also marked  the inaugural competition for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Introduced in 2025, this new prestigious award replaces the former Pataudi Trophy serving as a joint tribute to two of cricket’s most iconic figures: England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson and India’s iconic batter Sachin Tendulkar.

The inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series has been a captivating contest so far, with England currently holding a 2-1 lead after three thrilling Test matches.

  • 1st Test (Headingley, Leeds): England beat India by 5 wickets.
  • 2nd Test (Edgbaston, Birmingham): India bounced back emphatically, beating England by 336 runs.
  • 3rd Test (Lord’s, London): England secured a narrow 22-run victory over India in a tight finish.

However, India faces a formidable challenge at Old Trafford, a venue where their historical Test record remains a significant point of concern. In nine Test matches played at Old Trafford since 1936, India is yet to secure a single victory, with their record standing at four losses and five draws. Their most recent outing at this ground in 2014 under MS Dhoni resulted in a comprehensive innings defeat. This protracted winless streak at Old Trafford adds an extra layer of difficulty and pressure for the Indian team. As they strive to level the series, they will also be battling to break an 89-year jinx and avoid becoming the first team in Test history to play 10 or more matches at a specific venue without registering a single win.
