ENG vs IND [WATCH]: Jasprit Bumrah’s witty reply steals the show after Day 2 masterclass at Lord’s

On a day when Jasprit Bumrah dismantled England’s batting line-up with clinical precision, it was his comical quip at the post-day press conference that drew just as much attention as his fiery spell. The second day of the third Test at Lord’s belonged to the Indian pace ace — both with the ball and the mic.

With the red cherry in hand, Bumrah was in menacing form. He spearheaded India’s bowling attack and claimed 5 wickets for 74 runs, tearing through England’s middle and lower order. Key wickets of Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, and Jofra Archer helped India restrict England to 387, despite a valiant 84-run stand between Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56).

This performance marked Bumrah’s 15th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and, more significantly, his first at the iconic Lord’s — a milestone that earned him a well-deserved place on the honours board.

Bumrah’s hilarious antics after the day’s play

Despite this landmark feat, Bumrah’s celebration was unusually subdued — and he had a very human reason for it. Speaking at the press conference, the 30-year-old admitted, “I didn’t celebrate there because I was tired. I’m not 21-22 anymore that I will jump around. I just wanted to go back to my mark and bowl again.”

As the press conference progressed, an unexpected interruption added a light-hearted twist. A mobile phone placed near Bumrah began to ring, prompting him to pause mid-sentence and cheekily say, “Somebody’s wife is calling, but I will not pick it up.” The room burst into laughter, and the clip quickly made its way across social media.

Bumrah’s Day 2 performance was not just about numbers. It was a display of experience, adaptability, and unflappable temperament. As the leader of the Indian attack, he once again showed why he’s among the finest fast bowlers of this generation — and possibly the most lethal in overseas conditions.

With the Test still delicately poised, Bumrah’s combination of calm under pressure and cheek off it is proving to be invaluable for India — both in the middle and behind the mic.
