ENG vs IND: Harbhajan Singh predicts India’s probable playing XI for Manchester Test

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has weighed in on India’s possible team combination for the fourth Test against England, scheduled to begin on July 23, at Old Trafford, Manchester. With India trailing 2-1 in the five-match series, Harbhajan has suggested a blend of youth and experience in his probable playing XI.

Solid opening pair

Harbhajan has placed faith in the experienced KL Rahul and the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal to give India a solid start. Jaiswal has been one of India’s standout performers in the series so far, while Rahul provides stability and technique at the top.

Harbhajan Singh adds Sai Sudharsan in middle-order

A notable selection is Sai Sudharsan, who was dropped after the first Test. Harbhajan believes the youngster deserves another shot, backing his potential at No. 3. He is followed by Shubman Gill, who is expected to play a key role in anchoring the innings. Rishabh Pant takes up the dual responsibility of a middle-order aggressor and wicketkeeper.

Bowling attack featuring Kuldeep Yadav

The spin all-round duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar adds depth with both bat and ball. Jadeja’s consistency with the bat and ability to pick crucial wickets makes him a must-have, while Sundar’s tidy off-spin and calm temperament bolster the lower middle order.

In the bowling department, Harbhajan has opted for Kuldeep Yadav as the lead wrist-spinner. The pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep offers variety and aggression. However, Akash’s participation remains uncertain due to a niggling injury, and Anshul Kamboj has been called up as cover.

Notably, India’s plans have taken a hit with Akash Deep reportedly carrying an injury that could rule him out of the Manchester Test. With Arshdeep Singh also under observation for fitness issues, Anshul Kamboj has joined the squad as a back-up pacer. The team management may have to rethink their pace options depending on the final assessment of Akash and Arshdeep.
