ENG vs IND 2025: Concerns for India as Rishabh Pant leaves net practice after sustaining injury

In a surprising setback, India’s new Test vice-captain and dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, sustained an injury just before the crucial five-match Test series starting on June 20. This injury is a significant blow for the young Indian side, who face a challenging mission as they begin the new World Test Championship cycle. Pant’s presence and form will be vital for India’s success, making his fitness a key concern for the team management moving forward.

Rishabh Pant’s injury scare ahead of Test series against England

As reported by by RevSport, Pant was batting in the nets when a ball hit his left hand just below the helmet, and he seemed to be in immediate pain. The support staff quickly came over to check on him. After a short examination, they placed an ice pack on his hand to ease the discomfort. A little later, his hand was taped up for protection.

Meanwhile, Pant didn’t return to batting after that and spent the rest of the session watching his teammates from the side, staying off the field as a precaution. India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir was present during the session and had a short conversation with Pant after the incident.

Indian cricket is entering a new era in Test matches under the leadership of Shubman Gill. With batting greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma bidding farewell to the longest format last month, the responsibility now shifts to the next generation. The challenge grows for experienced players like Pant to step up and take charge of the batting unit in this transitional phase.
