Bollywood superstar Salman Khan shares the truth behind his decision not to own an IPL franchise

Salman Khan, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, recently shed light on a little-known chapter of his professional life that could have changed the landscape of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During a media interaction in Mumbai, the actor candidly revealed whether he was offered an opportunity to buy a team when the league was first conceived in 2008, a chance he ultimately turned down. While many of his peers from the film industry, including Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta, chose to invest in the league, Salman’s decision to stay away has remained a talking point for years, and he finally addressed it with his trademark charm, offering a simple and compelling reason for his choice.

Salman Khan reveals the real reason behind not owning an IPL franchise

Attending a World Padel League event in Mumbai to support his younger brother Sohail Khan‘s team, Salman was asked whether he had any interest in entering the IPL as an owner in the future. The superstar replied with his signature swag, “IPL ke liye too old ho gaye hum,” indicating that he feels he has moved past that phase of his career. He then confirmed the long-standing rumor about the initial offer, stating with a matter-of-fact tone, “IPL offer hua tha us waqt, liya nahi…”.

While many would assume he might regret a decision that has seen others benefit financially and professionally from the league, Salman was quick to dispel that notion. He added with a smile, “Aisa nahi hai ki pachta rahe hai hum. Khush hi hai hum,” affirming that he is happy with the path he chose. His answer gave a clear insight into his personal philosophy, showing that despite having the chance to be a part of a multi-billion dollar sporting enterprise, he is content with his own journey and does not dwell on what could have been, choosing instead to focus on his current commitments.

Salman’s upcoming big movie project: Battle of Galwan

Even though he chose not to become an IPL team owner, Salman has always been an avid cricket lover, a fact that his fans and the media are well aware of. His passion for the sport is evident in his public remarks and he has often expressed his admiration for cricketing legends. He has, on several occasions, gone on record to call MS Dhoni his favourite cricketer, showing his deep appreciation for the game and its players. This love for cricket, however, did not translate into a business venture, a decision he appears to stand by.

The actor’s professional life remains busy with film projects, which are his primary focus. Salman was recently seen in the film Sikandar, alongside a large ensemble cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal and Sharman Joshi. Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, the film received mixed reviews upon its release. The actor is currently focused on his next big project, which is his upcoming movie, Battle of Galwan. The film, which is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, is a historical drama based on the 2020 India-China Galwan Valley conflict and is slated for release in 2026, keeping him occupied with his first love, acting.
