Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shashank Singh opened up about the IPL 2025 final loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Shashank expressed regret over not finishing the run chase, as the Bengaluru-based team clinched a six-run victory in the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Shashank Singh scored an unbeaten 61 runs from just 30 balls, including 3 fours and 6 sixes, in the IPL 2025 final clash. However, it wasn’t enough to secure victory. Punjab Kings needed 42 runs from the last two overs, and Shashank fought hard, but the team fell just short of the target in the match.
I Had Done My Calculation of the Last Two Overs – Shashank Singh
Speaking to The Indian Express, Shashank Singh revealed the strategy he had in mind. Shashank had aimed to score around 16 to 17 runs off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s over. However, he managed only 13 runs off Bhuvneshwar, leaving Punjab needing 30 off the last over.
“I had done my calculation of the last two overs, Bhuvi likes to bowl yorkers so I had planned to get atleast 16-17 runs from him. My calculation was that in the last over our target should be 24 runs in 6 balls. “I got only 13 from Bhuvi’s over though, so the final over runs needed was 30,” said Shashank.
I Never Anticipated a Full Toss – Shashank Singh
Shashank revealed that he was surprised to face a full toss from Josh Hazlewood in the final over. Shashank said that he had mentally prepared for a yorker delivery and was caught off guard by a thigh-high full toss. The batter said that had he connected with the first ball, it could have gone for six.
“Mentally, my mind was ready to get a first ball yorker from Hazelwood. So I had positioned myself but I never anticipated a full toss one, that too on my thigh pad,” Shashank said.
“Now I feel, if I would have connected it, even if I got it on the handle of the bat, I would have got maximum, because the fine-leg was near. I was hoping for a wide from him but it never came. When I saw the scoreboard stating the last ball needed 12 runs, I knew it’s all over,” he added.
I Couldn’t Control Myself After Hitting That Six – Shashank Singh
Shashank Singh said that he was emotional while walking back to the dressing room after Punjab Kings’ narrow defeat. While Virat Kohli shed tears of joy for RCB’s maiden title win, Shashank was overwhelmed by heartbreak. He admitted breaking down even before the final ball was bowled.
“I’m a strong person but I couldn’t control myself when I hit that six on the fifth ball and I saw 12 runs needed off the last ball. I realised it’s all over. When I came to the dressing room, everyone came and said, why am I crying? I told them, mujhe apne aap aansoon aa raha hai,” he narrates.
