CSK or MI? Brett Lee picks the possible winner of IPL 2025

The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to begin on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening clash. The tournament will span over two months, culminating in the final on May 25. As excitement builds among cricket fans, discussions around team strengths and potential title contenders have already begun.

CSK vs MI: Which team will win their sixth IPL title?

Among the ten competing teams, the spotlight is on Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the two most successful franchises in IPL history, each boasting five titles. With both teams aiming for their record-breaking sixth championship, experts and former cricketers have started analyzing their chances ahead of the season.

While CSK are undergoing a transition phase, with new players stepping in to fill the void left by some legendary cricketers, MI face a challenge of improving their early-season performances, which have troubled them in previous editions. Both franchises have a strong squad, making the race for the IPL 2025 trophy even more intense.

Brett Lee predicts the IPL 2025 winner

Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has weighed in on the debate and shared his thoughts on which team—CSK or MI—could clinch their sixth IPL title first. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Lee highlighted MI’s recurring issue of losing multiple games at the start of the season but believes that if they manage to break this pattern, they will be a serious title contender.

“What has generally happened with Mumbai Indians in the last four to five years is that they lose their first four to five matches. Now, Mumbai Indians need to change that. If they start well and win a few of their first six games, they will gain momentum and be in a strong position for the playoffs. If MI does that, they can win their sixth title,” Lee stated.

Regarding CSK, Lee pointed out that the team is in a rebuilding phase, with many new players stepping in. He mentioned that while CSK has quality cricketers, MI appears to be the stronger side ahead of IPL 2025.

“For CSK, it is time to rebuild. They have lost some great players, and while there is new talent, consistency will be key for them. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, look stronger than CSK,” he added.

With Lee backing Mumbai Indians as favorites, it remains to be seen how both teams perform when IPL 2025 gets underway. As the countdown begins, fans eagerly await the return of the biggest T20 league in the world.
