India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli has dropped a massive hint about his future after the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He indirectly confirmed that he doesn’t have any retirement plans and will continue playing for the nation across the formats.
Virat Kohli added another feather in his hat as India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Rohit Sharma-led side beat New Zealand in the final by 4 wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (9th March) to win their third Champions Trophy.
Before the game, there were a lot of reports about some retirement in the Indian camp, especially Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. The trio also called time on their T20I career after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in June last year and something similar was speculated this time too.
When you leave, you want to leave the place In a better position, and that’s our effort – Virat Kohli on his retirement
However, Virat Kohli dropped a massive statement after the match, speaking to Simon Doull when the broadcaster asked him about his future. The batter was engaged in an interview along with Shubman Gill, confirming that he wants to leave the place when the team will be in a better position. He said:
“More in you, but when that time does come you’re leaving it in some pretty capable hands. Oh, for sure. I mean, you know, as Shubman said, I try to speak to these guys as much as possible, try to share my experience of how I’ve been able to play for so long, try to step in wherever I can, to help, improve their games. Yeah, it’s only, as they rightly say, when you leave, you want to leave the place In a better position, and that’s our effort.”
He added:
“You know, that’s what we’re striving for that when eventually we are finally done at whatever stage, we have a squad that’s ready to take on the world for the next 8-10 years. These guys have the talent to do so and also. The game awareness and you know, they’ve stepped up already so many impactful innings.”

Virat Kohli had a great campaign in the ICC Champions 2025
Virat Kohli had a great campaign in the ICC Champions 2025. He played a massive role in India winning the tournament for the first time in 13 years. The premier batter started the event with a failure against Bangladesh and, after that, didn’t look back.
Virat Kohli then, in a game against Pakistan, slammed a brilliant hundred to help the team win. The right-hander then oozed his class with the bat in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy against Australia. He slammed a brilliant half-century and took his team to the win with his heroics.

In the final, it was a disappointing outing for Kohli as he bagged a low score. But when he failed, it was Rohit Sharma, who stepped up. The skipper played a blistering innings of 76 runs off 83 balls. His heroics with the bat saw India winning the ICC Champions Trophy undefeated.
