Rohit Sharma ignored, Jasprit Bumrah selected as Kane Williamson names his toughest opponents




New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson shared his take on the toughest bowler and batter that he has played against in his career so far. The former captain of the team didn’t shy away from naming Jasprit Bumrah as the toughest pacer and also picked Virat Kohli among the toughest batters in the game.

New Zealand batter Williamson is gearing up for the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Kiwis will be up against the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team in the summit clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (9th March).

Williamson has looked in solid touch in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and will be holding the key for his team in the final as well. The premier batter slammed a magnificent century in the semi-final against South Africa and helped his team reach the final.

In New Zealand’s league-stage encounter against India, Kane Williamson played a terrific innings, too. The right-hander slammed a solid half-century and looked like the most settled batter from his team on a track that was offering spin, and other batters struggled.

Ahead of the final, Williamson was asked about the toughest bowler that he has faced. Replying to this, he said that over the years, he has faced many, but Jasprit Bumrah is the toughest. He said:

“Over the years, hard to pinpoint one because I think there’s always so many but, you know, when Jasprit Bumrah is flying like he is, I’m sure he’s a common answer.”

After that, Kane Williamson was asked to pick the toughest batter he has played against. Replying to this, he said: “Look, Virat’s always at the top of that tree. Steve Smith, Sachin. You’ll be in there for a lot of other people.”

Kane Williamson was also asked to pick his favourite cricket stadium, to which, he said: “I’m going to go with Basin Reserve in Wellington.”

Talking about his biggest inspiration in life, Kane Williamson said that playing the game is the thing that makes him think that he is fortunate. He explained:

“I’m going to say just in general, you know, really fortunate to play this game and I suppose our former players, you know, that paved the way and and really, you know, give us something to aspire to as younger players, which I’m no longer. But, you know, when you are younger growing up, I think that’s always really important.”

When asked about one of his best moments on the cricket field, he said that winning the ICC World Test Championship final was a great memory for him and his team. He stressed:

“One of my best moments would be the World Test Championship final, the first one. So, yeah, that was a great memory for our team.”
