BCCI set to elect new joint secretary at SGM on March 1 in Mumbai

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host a Special General Meeting (SGM) at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on March 1 at 12 PM IST. The main agenda of the meeting will be to elect a new joint secretary for the Indian cricket board, a position that has remained vacant recently.

The post of joint secretary in the Board of Control for Cricket in India has been vacant since Devjit Saikia was appointed as the Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary last month.

Saikia replaced Jay Shah, who took over as the chairman of the ICC in December. As per Board of Control for Cricket in India regulations, the joint secretary position must be filled within 45 days of the vacancy.

BCCI Set to Elect the New Joint Secretary on March 1

On behalf of Secretary Saikia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India sent out a notice for a Special General Meeting to state associations on Thursday, February 6 evening.

The sole agenda of the meeting is the election of the new joint secretary, which will be held at 12 pm at the Board of Control for Cricket in India headquarters in Mumbai on March 1.

“Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as SGM) of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters at Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI,” the apex board said in a statement.

Board of Control for Cricket in India Set to Host Second Special General Meeting in Less Than Two Months

The candidates being considered for the position of Board of Control for Cricket in India joint secretary are former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya from the East Zone, Rohan Jaitley from the North Zone, who represents the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), and Sanjay Naik from the West Zone, who is associated with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Unlike the elections held for the Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary and treasurer positions, there will be no election for the joint secretary role.

The joint secretary plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the board by overseeing administrative tasks and collaborating with other board members to maintain efficiency in the organization’s functions.

Board of Control for Cricket in India has adhered to the rule requiring a 21-day notice to convene an SGM. This SGM will be the second such meeting in less than two months. The previous SGM was held on January 12 for the unopposed election of Devjit Saikia as the new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the new treasurer.
